Designing a budget Windows Server 2016 S2D Hyper-Converged Cluster
At a previous position I saw the need for a VM cluster, and will detail some of the steps I took and items that were purchased. This configuration uses 10GB RDMA capable NIC's for significant performance increases while still using "standard" networking equipment.
Ingredients:
- 2x 8-Port Netgear 10GBE Switches
- 3x Chelsio T520-BT NIC's
- 3x PowerEdge R730xd's
- Veeam Backup (For all CPU's)
- Synology + 4 bay expansion
- 8x WD Red 6TB 5400RPM drives
